Risk Engineering

Managing risk is an essential part of any business process. Business interruption, loss of market share, litigation, environmental and safety issues, as well as the cost of insuring these risks, can impact a company's profitability and reputation. Successfully managing these risks is an important strategy if a company is to remain competitive.  In the area of Catastrophe Risk Management, we provide site-specific and portfolio risk analyses for natural perils such as earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, and floods, and for man-made perils such as terrorism and blast. We have applied our expertise to help our clients in a variety of ways. The Miyamoto Earthquake Risk Reduction Program (ERRP) utilizes Performance Based Design concepts and applies them to existing facilities.  The ERRP has been expanded over the years to incorporate other natural hazards, such as hurricanes and typhoons. Many corporations, governments, and industries, including power generation, essential services, defense, technology, healthcare, institutional, educational, commercial, and larger multi-family residential, have implemented this design.
