The BP Gemlik plant’s mineral oil operation facilities were assessed against potential earthquakes and other service loads based on visual inspection, review of the structural drawings and documents available, as well as spot checks and calculations when required. Based on the obtained findings and proposed risk mitigation plan, the mineral oil depot building, lubricating grease production facility, grease raw material storehouse, gantry shelter, power distribution unit, mineral-oil blending warehouse and fire foam station structures were investigated further for upgrading purposes and approximate budget cost estimation. Finally, retrofitting projects followed by site supervision services were provided for quality control based on the rehabilitation plan. The challenge of the project was to find an adequate retrofit method with cost effective solutions that was constructible with minimal disruption, especially for the production facilities.
