The Embassy of Kuwait in Singapore looked to relocate into its own building, from existing leased office suite in Ritz Carlton. The proposed project was to convert an existing multi-storeyed mix-used building into a secured office building. As the lead structural engineer, Franky started with checking the adequacy and suitability of the existing structures for the new usage and architectural intervention. Apart from strengthening the existing reinforced concrete structure, the project also called for a new structure to carry an entirely new stone-cladding facade system. The steel sub-frame was to be suspended on the existing main structure. The project requires sensitivity and meticulous detailing to ensure the minimal destructive work to the existing structure. In this project, he also explored and applied the use of non-conventional construction material, including carbon fibre reinforced polymer and glass.
