Historic Meets Modern: 1130 K Street Building Expansion Project

We are thrilled to share our latest accomplishment in urban architectural preservation and expansion! Our team recently completed work on the rehabilitation and expansion of the historic 1130 K Street building, seamlessly blending century-old charm with contemporary design.

This exciting project involved designing the structural system for a sleek two-story modern addition that adds 42,000 square feet of premium office space to the urban landscape. What makes this project special is how it honors and preserves the rich architectural details of the original Weinstock, Lubin & Company Building, which first opened its doors in 1924.

A key design decision was setting the addition back 20 feet from the original structure. This thoughtful approach created a harmonious visual transition between the historic and modern elements, allowing each architectural style to maintain its integrity while complementing the other.

For the structural elements, our engineering team implemented innovative solutions using ConXtech moment frames and steel beams. These modern structural components provided the necessary stability and strength while supporting the contemporary aesthetic of the addition.

The result is a stunning blend of Sacramento’s architectural heritage with forward-thinking design—proof that with creative engineering and respectful planning, historic buildings can be preserved and enhanced for modern use, contributing to both the city’s history and its future.
