Based on the performance assessment caried out previously, a Feasibility Study was conducted for five buildings (Dyehouse, Finishing, Spinning, Spinning Office, and Engineering building) where business interruption was important. Thanks to these Feasibility Studies, the type, number of friction dampers and preferred locations were identified. According to the feasibility study, estimated downtime, construction times, and approximate cost were also determined. Within the scope of the retrofitting project, 43% (~15,000 m2) of the total building area was designed by using friction dampers. Dampers are located in order to minimize the business interruption. In some buildings, due to the sensitive equipments inside the building, dampers are implemented externally from the outside. In the structures retrofitted by dampers, no foundation work was required inside the structure. The conventional method of retrofitting included steel brace addition, column jacketing and FRP wrapping.
