This project involved the structural design of the Turkcell Research and Development Center in the Gebze region of Turkey. Turkcell is a private telecommunications company located in the outskirts of Istanbul in the Tubitak Marmara Research Center Technology Free-Trade Zone. Taking the site context, views and orientation into consideration, the building offers a single-story entry, but rises to four stories on the office side like “a slice of cheese.” The higher side of the structure is comprised of office spaces and the areas overlooking the land receive light from the large space created from the roof down. Hence, the office spaces get natural light from all four sides.
The structure also has a grass roof, allowing employees to take advantage of a recreational space. Owing to the fact that it was conceived as an IT and technological production center accommodating 500 employees around the clock, the building features the highest technological standards while incorporating resting and sleeping areas as well as showers, a fitness center, a climbing wall and a billiard room. The right wing of the building houses meeting and seminar rooms, while the left wing includes the fitness center and recreational areas.
