Miyamoto International is thrilled to announce the participation of Dr. Kit Miyamoto and Amir Gilani at the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) 2024 Conference this Thursday, September 5th. They will present a groundbreaking approach to rapid assessment using GIS technology, a game-changer for post-disaster recovery and resilience.
In the wake of Turkey’s devastating 7.8 earthquake in 2023, Miyamoto International undertook a rapid assessment of 1,622 buildings and 2,500 residential units. Leveraging advanced GIS technology, the team was able to quickly estimate repair costs, thereby accelerating recovery efforts and reducing the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). This tech-driven approach proved vital in supporting over 165,000 people in the affected areas.
“We are excited to share how this innovative technology can transform disaster response and recovery efforts,” said Dr. Kit Miyamoto, CEO of Miyamoto International. “Our work in Turkey demonstrated that with the right tools, we can not only speed up recovery but also reduce the humanitarian impact by quickly stabilizing communities.”
During the SEAOC 2024 session, Dr. Miyamoto and Amir Gilani will provide a comprehensive overview of the rapid assessment process, highlighting the effectiveness of GIS technology in disaster scenarios. Attendees will gain valuable insights into how such technologies can be applied to improve resilience and support swift recovery in future disaster events.
