The new Judi & Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment & Wellness is a 4-story 108,000-SF Class A medical office building housing the Mission Hospital’s Cancer Treatment and Prevention Center. The treatment center provides specialized cancer care not previously available to residents of South Orange County. The building has two linear accelerator vaults and a CyberKnife vault. Each vault is pre-engineered and designed to fit inside the first floor of the building. Miyamoto came up with a creative design solution to address a challenging, steep site. The design includes a 70-foot MSE retaining wall near the building and deep foundations. The building is constructed of structural steel and is the first SidePlate bolted connection project in South Orange County. The project team used LEAN design principles resulting in the efficient and fast completion of the building.
