Miyamoto provided structural engineering services for 11 existing two-story buildings on 10 properties throughout San Diego. The apartment buildings were of wood-frame construction and showed signs of their age. Miyamoto visited each building to perform a condition assessment, observe the deterioration, and take measurements. Using the data collected, the team seismically analyzed the buildings and developed construction drawings for seismic upgrades to enhance building performance in future seismic events. The team continued to support the project during the bidding and construction phases by assisting the commission with responses to requests from the contractor and visiting the site as needed for structural observations.
