Venezuela Earthquake Response · Second Team Deployment
Miyamoto International is expanding its earthquake response operations in northern Venezuela. A second field engineering team will deploy Sunday, joined by Dr. Kit Miyamoto, to support structural safety assessments, recovery coordination, and early reconstruction planning, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response.
The team joins Jesús Valdez Aguilar, CEO of Miyamoto México, who has been on the ground in the affected areas since the days immediately following the June 24 earthquake sequence. His fieldwork has supported urban search and rescue operations in La Guaira and Catia La Mar, coordination with Red Cross rescue leadership, and structural safety guidance at active collapse sites, including the 183-hour rescue of Hernán Alberto Gil Flores.
From rescue support to structural assessment
As the immediate search and rescue phase transitions toward damage assessment and early recovery, Miyamoto’s expanded team will focus on structural triage, safety evaluations, and the groundwork needed for longer-term recovery planning across affected communities.

After major earthquakes, damaged buildings can continue to pose serious risks to survivors, rescuers, response personnel, and nearby communities. Structural engineers help evaluate whether buildings, partial collapses, adjacent structures, and access routes can be entered, stabilized, restricted, or prioritized for additional review.
