We’re proud to share that Miyamoto International was recently featured in a UNESCO article highlighting our collaborative earthquake assessment mission in Myanmar.
Following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025—affecting over 15 million people and damaging more than half a million buildings—our engineers partnered with UNESCO to conduct critical safety assessments between April 28 and May 2, 2025.
Key Impact Highlights:
Schools Reopened Safely: Our team assessed 36 school buildings, with 24 deemed safe for immediate occupancy. Through direct consultations with school principals, we provided the confidence needed to reopen schools within days, restoring normalcy for students and families.
Life-Saving Assessments: Approximately 30% of assessed buildings were found unsafe due to structural damage.
As one hospital director noted:
“Without this assessment, we would’ve reopened unknowingly—we now know what’s needed to protect lives.”
Building Back Better: Our engineers provided immediate guidance to communities, helping halt unsafe reconstruction practices and promoting proper repair methods through community education sessions.
This mission exemplifies our commitment to disaster resilience and safe reconstruction practices worldwide. We’re honored to support UNESCO’s ongoing efforts to develop guidelines and training materials that will help Myanmar build back safer and stronger.
