Miyamoto International Supports 1000 Drawings LA – A Community Art Initiative Benefiting Fire-Displaced Families

At Miyamoto International, our work has always been grounded in one conviction: the built environment exists to protect people. When disasters strike, that conviction extends beyond engineering—into how communities heal, reconnect, and rebuild.

We are proud to announce the launch of 1000 Drawings LA, a city-wide art exhibition organized by our sister organization, Miyamoto Relief, in response to the devastating wildfires that have displaced thousands of Los Angeles families. This initiative reflects the values that unite our two organizations: technical excellence in service of human resilience.

1000 Drawings LA: Art Meets Direct Aid

1000 Drawings LA is a deceptively simple idea with profound impact. Original drawings—created by community members, students, and teams across the city—are displayed in the windows and walls of partner businesses throughout Los Angeles. Anyone who walks by can purchase a drawing for $25 or more, using a frictionless QR-code-based checkout system. They collect their artwork in-store and walk away knowing 100% of their purchase went directly to a fire-displaced family.

No overhead. No middlemen. Art as direct aid.

Why Miyamoto International Supports This Initiative

Our engineers have spent decades helping communities recover after earthquakes, floods, and other disasters worldwide. We know that the physical act of rebuilding is only part of recovery. Economic stability, community cohesion, and hope are equally critical—and they are not rebuilt by engineers alone.

1000 Drawings LA addresses recovery at the human level. It mobilizes the entire city—creatives, businesses, schools, and individuals—into a coordinated act of generosity. That kind of civic muscle is something we deeply respect, and it mirrors our own mission of bringing technical rigor to community resilience.

A Unique Collector’s Opportunity

To attract maximum participation, Alcon Entertainment—the acclaimed production company behind Blade Runner 2049, The Expanse, Prisoners, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and The Garfield Movie—has donated original production sketches, concept art, and props from its legendary productions. These collector pieces are distributed among the community drawings at partner venues across the city, rewarding participants with potentially extraordinary finds.

How Your Organization Can Get Involved

Whether you are one of our clients, a partner firm, or a member of the broader AEC community in Los Angeles, there is a meaningful role for you in 1000 Drawings LA:

Host a Display

Open your lobby, office window, or reception area as an exhibition space. It is a visible statement of your firm’s commitment to LA’s recovery—and a conversation starter with every client and visitor.

Host a Drawing Party

Bring your team together to create artwork for the exhibition. It is a team-building activity that generates real, tangible impact for families in need. Drawings of any skill level are welcome—the message matters more than the medium.

Become a Sponsor

Sponsorships underwrite the operational costs of the initiative, ensuring that every dollar from drawing sales reaches a family in need. Sponsorships are tax-deductible and place your organization’s brand alongside a positive, city-wide movement.
