Miyamoto International is providing structural engineering services related to the evaluation of the Unreinforced Masonry Building at 1816 Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine if the existing conditions meet the requirements of Appendix A of the existing California code. The work being done now was triggered by a change in occupancy requiring higher standards. The report will summarize the current conditions and make recommendations for the appropriate actions to be taken to upgrade the building to Appendix A standards. Miyamoto will produce drawings for the city’s building plan check process. The owner plans to use the building for a restaurant.
