3M Manufacturing

Miyamoto International performed ASCE 41-13 seismic risk mitigation cost-benefit analyses to understand the exposure to potential damage, loss and business interruption of 11 manufacturing facilities at four separate sites in Southern California, each with unique business functions. The buildings were primarily concrete tilt-up with panelized wood roofs, deficient anchorage and cross ties. Utilizing our reports and conceptual sketches, the client considered their most crucial assets and related susceptibility to create priorities for the retrofit program. Upon receiving this order of priority, the design team developed detailed structural retrofits to be strategically implemented in a phased sequence to avoid disruptions in production. The team’s ability to collaborate with user groups for a well-coordinated rollout was crucial to project success. Also central to performance were frequent site visits to successfully coordinate existing utilities, equipment and distribution systems and to proactively solve on-site logistics for maintaining uninterrupted operations. The Miyamoto team also managed building department approvals and the validation of cost estimates and bids. 3M Manufacturing Facilities Location: Irvine, Monrovia, Oak Hills and Northridge, CA Year: 2017 Client: 3M, Inc.
