 Archdiocese of San Juan

In September 2017, Puerto Rico was struck by Hurricane Maria, a devastating category 4 hurricane that entered through the Southeast of the island and caused widespread damage. Among the affected was the Archdiocese of San Juan and their places of worship in the Metropolitan area. Miyamoto is providing A&E services for the repair of 24 Catholic Houses of Worship, some of which are historic structures important to the cultural fabric of the local community, and two Catholic radio stations. The building types range from concrete to unreinforced masonry.

The typical damage reported by FEMA and observed by our team of Miyamoto engineers includes paint and plaster damage, roof/ceiling damage, water damage and cracks in walls. Some churches also presented damage to their perimeter walls and fencing. The primary objective of the repairs is to restore the buildings to their pre-disaster condition.
