Basil Moreau is a high-quality K-12 school founded by Holy Cross in 1989. In just over two decades, Basil Moreau has grown to serve over 650 children from low-income families in the neighborhood of Carrefour, Port-au-Prince. With a strong record of performance and quality, Basil Moreau School is considered among the best in the nation. The ground motions from the 2010 earthquake caused damage to the non-ductile concrete frame as well as the unreinforced masonry and infill walls. To repair this severely damaged three-story, 12,000-SF concrete school, the building was seismically retrofitted with new cast-in-place concrete shear walls using local materials. The existing stair and roof enclosures were also repaired due to damage sustained during the earthquake.
