Miyamoto provided structural engineering services as part of the AB300 initiative which required the Department of General Services (DGS) to conduct an inventory of public school buildings with potential seismic deficiencies. The Home Science building at Burbank Middle School underwent the strengthening of the roof, wall anchorage and walls of the existing structure. The strengthening of the roof included specific areas along with out-of-plane anchorage systems, the addition of new shear walls and strengthening of existing shear walls using FRP systems.
