This project replaces the Caribbean Market that was lost during the Haiti January 2010 earthquake. Miyamoto analyzed and designed a one-story, partially buried concrete structure with three additional floors of steel structure. The cast-in-place concrete structure, a product warehouse for the adjacent market, functions as storage below grade and a parking garage above. The three-level structure is mixed-use, providing retail and office spaces, and uses a buckling restrained braced frame to resist and dissipate energy during earthquakes. Our engineers ensured that construction went smoothly and without interruption by providing support and on-site directions to the contractor.
