Caribbean School, Science Labs Structural Repairs

During the 2020 Puerto Rico earthquake, a magnitude 6.4 that was preceded by a swarm of earthquakes, the Caribbean School’s Laboratory Buildings suffered structural damages. The project consisted of two two-story reinforced concrete buildings with metal deck roofs. Miyamoto International’s Puerto Rico office assessed each building, documenting, measuring and analyzing observed damages. Our engineers developed repair solutions for each type of damage and described each solution in construction documents in a clear and concise manner. Our team observed, for the most part, cracks on reinforced concrete walls and reinforced concrete columns. For such damages, we employed epoxy injections for walls and reinforced concrete jackets for columns.
