Miyamoto provided a structural analysis as well as the structural design of this new multi-level luxury residence. The design had various challenges. First, the structure would be constructed on a very sloped terrain, which complicated the foundation system, as well as the complex framing plan for the various levels. Secondly, being located on the ocean front, the structure would be exposed to storms and hurricanes every year—add to this the high seismic zone the island is located in. Our local office tackled all these challenges, providing practical solutions for wind and earthquake forces while maintaining the building’s design and layout intact, as envisioned by the architect.
