With the mission to address the increasing demand for domestic violence services in the region, the Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC) contracted Miyamoto as the structural engineer to design their first purpose-built resource center. This new three-story construction quadruples the DVRC’s current shelter capacity and unites its services under one roof. With this new facility, DVRC will be better equipped to address the growing number of clients.
The structural design features steel framing with concrete over metal deck at the floors and roof and buckling-restrained brace frames for the lateral system. Our design takes into consideration the building’s irregular shape and layout, especially the large exterior “green” deck areas on the second and third floors.
