Haiti 400,000 Damaged Buildings Repair Program

As a result of the earthquake damage assessment of 400,000 structures, Miyamoto International identified 100,000 repairable buildings in Port-au-Prince. Repair assessments were conducted with Ministry of Public Works, Transport, and Communications (MTPTC) approval, and 250 Haitian engineers were utilized to make the repairs in compliance with an international quality-control method. Four-hundred trained masons and contractors made repairs under the MTPTC-developed program, creating a community-based construction management program. Ultimately, more than 10,000 buildings were been repaired, allowing many families to leave the temporary campsites and return home. Pursuant to the international standard, each structure took three days to repair, with an average estimated cost of US$1,000 for labor and material, plus management. To provide real-time information on repair efforts, Miyamoto uses the MTPTC-approved personal digital assistant (PDA) database management system. The system allows engineers in the field to upload assessment information electronically to a master database.
