Kubota Western Distribution Center

Kubota Western Distribution Center

Kubota’s new Western Distribution Center in Elk Grove, CA, replaces their former facility in Lodi, CA, to meet the increasing demand for more Kubota equipment from the company’s Western Division Dealers and customers. The one-story, state-of-the-art facility occupies a whopping 631,465 square feet and was designed according to sustainable principles, reflecting Kubota’s global mission to use technology to optimize efficient operations. It houses offices, training classrooms, and a distribution network for farming, construction, and turf equipment, as well as repair parts destined for Kubota dealers and customers throughout the western region.

Miyamoto prepared the structural design of the facility, consisting of concrete tilt-up walls and steel roof trusses. While the design is conventional and expected of warehouse distribution centers, the project still presented a unique challenge. Following their fabrication, the owner asked to increase the hanging load capacity of the steel roof trusses. This required close, detailed coordination between structural and MEP engineers and the truss supplier to retrofit brand-new trusses.
