Lakeside Library

The Lakeside Branch Library provides space and resources to enhance community engagement and activity. This new structure is not only a landmark building but an important resource to the community. Through a variety of events and services, the library serves as a central point for civic engagement, information and education. This net-zero-energy building functions entirely on solar energy and fulfills the Net-Zero Energy criteria of the Living Building Challenge. The library is located just a few blocks from the original branch on Woodside Road near Channel Road and has acquired a LEED Gold net-zero energy rating.

Miyamoto’s structural design incorporates special steel moment frames for lateral resistance; these are arranged strategically to support high and low roofs, as well as the structure’s irregular footprint. The structure stands on potentially liquefiable soil, which is why our team worked closely with the geotechnical engineers and design-build team to develop options for foundations that addressed this issue and kept costs low.
