After the April 6, 2009 earthquake, Miyamoto International and Global Risk Miyamoto (GRM) dispatched a team of earthquake engineers to the L’Aquila, Italy region to assess the structural integrity of existing buildings and infrastructure. We also provided support to clients on damage assessment, loss estimation and repair recommendations to mitigate further business interruption. This data is now being used to promote earthquake risk reduction worldwide. More than 300 people were killed and 40,000 were left homeless as a result of the damage caused by the magnitude 6.3 earthquake near L’Aquila.
