Lewis & Clark College Residence Hall

Lewis & Clark College Residence Hall

Miyamoto provided structural engineering services for this 169-bed residence hall that serves both graduate and undergraduate students. The 4 1/2-story building is separated vertically into distinct sections with apartment-style units for graduate students and standard suites for undergraduates. This hilly site posed a challenge for accessibility, but the team ultimately exceeded the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. Moreover, the team excelled in providing green features that met the LEED Gold criteria. Most notable is the locally sourced repurposed wood for the building exterior. Other water-wise and energy-efficient elements were featured throughout. Lastly, Miyamoto’s advanced framing techniques reduced the need for thermal bridging in exterior walls, which reduces building shrinkage and creates a more durable and energy-efficient space that students can enjoy for many years. Awards: 2013 LEED® Gold, Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council Lewis & Clark College Residence Hall
