Mario “Ñato” Ramirez Municipal Stadium, named after a local baseball hero who played six Major League Baseball seasons from 1980 to 1985, was impacted by Hurricane Maria in 2017, sustaining damage at the backstop padding, gym acoustic panel, roof structure, drain system, luminaires and digital scoreboard. When the south of Puerto Rico was shaken by a series of earthquakes in early 2020, cracks formed throughout the main building. In response, Miyamoto’s team of experts assessed the damage and developed preliminary repair plans to address the moderate damage caused by both the hurricane and the earthquakes.
