Miyamoto International worked with the Wellington City Council to refurbish the popular inner-city Midland Park. The scope of the project included improving the drainage, installing new outdoor lights and seating, concreting and landscaping. Due to the large number of park users in the summer months, the work had to be, and was, completed before Christmas. One of the challenges of this project was access to the park. The popularity of the park (particularly during the summer months) meant that it could not be completely closed. At least half the park had to stay open at all times; therefore, our team had to ensure the public could always have safe access to the park. However, all four sides of the park were open to the public; extensive safety fencing had to be erected to keep people away from the construction activities. After refurbishment, Midland Park is now a space that many Wellingtonians enjoy.
