This three-story office building from the 1980s is being converted to a 220-bed student dormitory, incorporating eight family suites, a living room, study room, entertainment room and a small library. The Oaks Christian School brought in Miyamoto to perform a voluntary seismic upgrade to enhance the safety of its students. The team will address several critical issues, such as improving discontinuous shear walls with new concrete piers, strengthening transfer beams with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) sheets and anchoring the existing masonry walls. As of now, Phase 1 has been completed, and half of the dormitory has been in use for a year; the other half is under construction.
