After the 2022 earthquake, Miyamoto provided critical, high-level technical support to the entire humanitarian response. Our work went beyond assessing building damage to include a detailed Geohazard Investigation, identifying risks from landslides and other ground failures. As a key technical partner to the Shelter Cluster, we trained engineers from numerous partner agencies, developed “build back safer” guidelines, and provided expert advice to ensure the reconstruction effort was built on a foundation of sound engineering and geotechnical safety.
