Public Work by Peter Shire Wilshire Blvd/Home Depot

Peter Shire’s work called Public Work, demonstrates the convergence of 20th Century architecture and art with pop culture by using a visual vocabulary of design with graphic shapes and geometric structures. Shire is also known for his saturated color palette and his transformation of space. Born in Los Angeles, in the Echo Park area where he still resides today, Shire is a native of a city that prides itself on the many cultures and languages it comprises. Miyamoto International provided the anchorage design for the sculptures located in the parking lot of the Home Depot on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. As structural and earthquake engineers, our work included the foundation and the anchorage of the separate poles that the art designs sit upon. A smaller scale of the piece was commissioned as a gift to our CEO and now sits in the lobby of the Miyamoto Los Angeles office located in Downtown Los Angeles. The sculpture was recently on loan to the A+D Museum for an exhibit solely dedicated to Peter Shire’s Public Works.
