Architecture & Development (A&D), a French nonprofit, conducted an effective and sustainable rebuilding and retrofitting campaign response for villagers that were affected by the earthquake in the Sindhupalchowk district. A&D launched the pilot campaign in three villages, Thangpaldhap, Thangpalkot and Gunsakot, with the objective to rebuild and retrofit more than 2,000 structures. As part of the project, Miyamoto developed repair and retrofit strategies along with a cost analysis, and trained engineers in damage assessment and retrofit strategies, both in classrooms and out in the field. On receiving extensive expert training, the newly trained engineers applied our retrofit plans for houses in the three villages. Along with this extensive training program, Miyamoto conducted field supervisions to ensure that quality standards were met. Through this project, Miyamoto and A&D ensured that people living in earthquake-vulnerable houses could live in safer spaces with their families.
