The Franklin Residential Care Facility & Behavioral Health Clinic, a two-story, tilt-up structure, is the result of the adaptive reuse of an office building built in the 1970s. This expansion of the Riverside University Health System provides residential care, outpatient behavioral health services and short-term recuperation care to help individuals regain stability and transition toward independent living. The adaptive reuse and tenant improvement features include areas dedicated to improving recovery, such as multipurpose rooms, exercise and outdoor recreation space, commercial kitchen and dining area, nurse’s station, medication room and consultation spaces to support residents build life skills as they prepare for independent living.
Miyamoto prepared the design for this adaptive reuse, retrofit and tenant improvement project. The design consists of new framing systems, such as steel beams, columns and connections; a new lateral force resisting system that utilizes special reinforced concrete shear walls and associated foundations; and new CMU walls and infill at new openings. Our team collaborated closely with the client to ensure the successful delivery of this project.
