Saint Nicolo Church XVI

Saint Nicolo Church XVI

A seismic assessment and retrofit feasibility study were performed on this public works project for the Municipality of Carpi. This church is an important piece of Italian monumental and cultural heritage. Dating back to the 16th century, it has been subjected to many earthquakes during its long life. Due to this, a study was conducted to assess the possibility of retrofitting the building by isolating the dome and using it as a tuned mass damper. During the May 2012 Earthquake, the church was affected, prompting Miyamoto’s emergency involvement to provide temporary interventions and restore the safety of the building.
