Shasta Executive Plaza GSA Seismic Assessment

The existingbuildinghad a steel-framed structure with truss moment frames in each direction, designed per the 1982 Uniform BuildingCode. The evaluation was conducted usinga three-dimensional fi nite element model built usingETABS. A Tier 3 evaluation was performed usingthe ASCE 41 Linear Dynamic Procedure and evaluated for Life Safety (LS) performance at a BSE-1E hazard level (20%/50 years). The analysis results indicated the buildingstructure generally met this performance objective, except for the connections of the moment truss bott om chords to the column webs at the second and third-fl oor levels, which required connection upgrades. Based on these fi ndings and the implementation of these connection upgrades, the buildingwas made compliant with the GSA seismic safety standards.
