The Hoag On-Demand Care & Innovation Center

The Hoag On-Demand Care & Innovation Center

The Hoag On-Demand Care & Innovation Center is a masterclass example in adaptive reuse. Previously a group of buildings varying in usage, such as banking and offices, the project site was adapted for health care services. The center itself pushes patient care to the next level, as its program seamlessly blends the time-saving convenience of technology with the care and comfort of human connection, itself transforming how patients have interacted with health care professionals until now. Miyamoto’s efforts focused as much on the exterior as in the interior. The client wanted to “open” the buildings’ façade, which prompted our engineers to think outside the box so the design could meet its requirements with minimal retrofits. Among our services, we developed the design for a new entry, new façade remodel, support and anchorage for new HVAC equipment and support for the architectural scope. This included seismic retrofits at the western elevation of one of the buildings.
