The Meier Building

The Meier Building

The Meier Buildingwas built in 1921 in downtown Woodland’s historic Main Street business district. It was one of Woodland’s first automobile dealerships. Prior to its purchase in 2015, the buildingsat vacant for years and was in dire need of repairs and renovation. It was the vision of developers Ron Caceres and John Anagnostou to restore and enhance the historic character of the building’s exterior while repurposingthe interior for modern offices featuringexposed heavy timber trusses, concrete walls and floors. Structural improvements for the buildinggenerally fall into one of two categories: (1) improvements related to a new rooft op photovoltaic (PV) array system and (2) voluntary seismic upgrades. The improvements included the reinforcement of the roof sheathing, purlins and bow-stringtrusses to support the PV racks and wind loading, out-of-plane bracing, anchorage for the concrete walls and parapets for the wood-framed roof structure. Finally, the building’s aesthetic was improved by addingnew steel-framed storefronts with integrated steel awnings on the College and Bush Streets.
