The Pearl Family Housing

The Pearl Family Housing

The Pearl Family Housing is a six-story, wood-framed, full city-block building consisting of 138 units. The tenant’s family income may not exceed 60 percent of the Median Family Income (MFI) in the Portland area. A sustainable practice of advanced framing was used, minimizing the amount of lumber needed and resulting in 33 percent less dry shrinkage in the building, creating a more durable exterior wall. The project boasts a green roof, rooftop solar array, and five stories of brick veneer supported by the wood frame and jointed for earthquake and wind movements. The new HVAC systems increased efficiency and improved air quality and circulation.
