The Stewart Cannery Apartments at Railroad Square

The Stewart Cannery Apartments at Railroad Square

A marriage between past and present and celebration of the contextually rich location between the Santa Rosa Historic District and train station and the Santa Rosa Creek, the Santa Rosa Cannery was transformed into a 174,000-SF, five-story affordable housing building. Featuring Type III construction over a Type I concrete podium, the 90 multifamily homes rise from behind the existing historic brick façade and purposely express a contemporary language and industrial details that accentuate past and present aesthetics. The project entailed several unique elements, such as bracing and shoring for the existing historic brick façade, the structural restoration of a historic water tower and the complicated interaction between the new foundation and existing bridge foundations.
