USC Fire Station No. 15 Relocation

USC Fire Station No. 15 Relocation

Miyamoto International worked with the USC to provide design consulting services for the relocation of Fire Station No. 15. The existing 5,664-SF fire station building dated back to 1950 and was eligible for local historic landmark status. A portion of the existing building was relocated from 915 West Jefferson Boulevard to a USC-owned property located at 647 West 32nd Street. The Fire Station Building was rehabilitated and is now used as a virtual production stage, studio annex and academic space for the adjacent Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts (RZC). RZC houses the university’s Electronic Arts Game Design Lab and student-run television station. The building is made of plywood on steel beams and wood joists supported by concrete walls, metal stud walls and steel columns. The adaptive reuse project is closely tied to the $1.1 billion Village at USC, which created more than 2 million SF of student housing, academic facilities and neighborhood retail.
