Verily Campus Lab and Office Buildings

Verily Campus Lab and Office Buildings

This project involved designing the exterior Buckle Restrained Braced Frame (BRBF) lateral system for two science lab and office buildings in the heart of what’s now South San Francisco’s booming biotech industry. Projects to date include a 5-story lab and office structure at 259 E. Grand Avenue and a 3-story lab and office structure at 269 E. Grand Avenue. Building 269 included an 84’x30’ atrium and diaphragm, which created a challenge for the design team in connecting the two. The atrium allows natural daylight to accent the building’s sustainable elements. Housing research and development labs with offices, the buildings are now part of a campus that Verily, formerly Google Life Sciences, moved into in 2016. The buildings were formerly occupied by the biotech giant Amgen, Inc. Miyamoto is working on the overall Verily campus expansion, providing engineering services for 279 E. Grand Avenue as well.
