Veteran Commons at 11269 Garfield Avenue in Downey, California, provides 100 affordable homes, including supportive housing, to veterans facing homelessness and veteran families. The 94,000-SF mixed-use development includes a 4,400-SF Workforce Development Hub serving both residents and the community-at-large with job search assistance, employment training and skill-building services. Consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the residential amenities also contain a 1,500-SF residential center, four case management/residential services offices, children’s play area, a rooftop garden, community yards, parking for 70 vehicles and even a veteran’s memorial public art at the corner of Gardendale and Garfield.
Miyamoto is working with Abode Communities and PATH Ventures to support the Los Angeles County Development Authority and ensure homeless veterans and veteran families receive the housing support they need.
