The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) continues its efforts to help members enhance business capacity in disaster risk reduction. In line with this commitment, Kadin Indonesia officially launched its partnership with USAID KUAT (Urban Communities for Resilient Action) at Kadin Indonesia headquarters in Jakarta on October 31, 2023. This collaboration represents Kadin Indonesia’s effort to support the role of business institutions in following up on Law No.24/2007 concerning Disaster Management.
The partnership is designed for a 36-month implementation period until March 2026, with activities focused on enhancing competencies for business actors to increase awareness, skills, and coordination between public and private sectors in disaster risk reduction, particularly in DKI Jakarta, Bogor Regency, and Tangerang Regency.
Implementation of the partnership between Kadin Indonesia and USAID KUAT will cover three main areas:
- Risk planning to identify and reduce disaster risks
- Preparedness to help develop disaster response plans
- Post-disaster recovery
In her remarks, Suryani Motik, Vice Chairwoman of Kadin Indonesia for Social Affairs and Disaster Management, expressed Kadin’s support for encouraging business actors in creating disaster-resilient communities. “Business institutions have played a strategic role in every post-disaster event. Through the Kadin-USAID KUAT partnership, we hope business actors can enhance their capacity to understand their potential so they can also contribute to disaster risk reduction,” said Suryani.

USAID KUAT is a program supporting the reduction of casualties, injuries, property losses, and overall social and economic disruption due to natural disaster threats in urban and sub-urban areas across DKI Jakarta, Bogor Regency, and Tangerang Regency. The program is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Miyamoto International, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), and Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) in partnership with KADIN Indonesia, BPBD DKI Jakarta, BPBD Tangerang Regency, BPBD Bogor Regency, Jakarta Disaster Risk Reduction Forum, Tangerang Regency Disaster Risk Reduction Forum, LPBI NU West Java, and Skala Indonesia Foundation.
