The Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) in Marina, California features a two-story, 27,500-square-foot medical office building alongside a 37,500-square-foot wellness center. The MOB houses Peninsula Primary Care, a satellite laboratory, x-ray and urgent care. The fitness center includes cardiovascular fitness and rehabilitation area, indoor lap and therapy pools, physical, speech and occupational therapy, strength training and classes and locker rooms.
The LEED-NC, Silver-Certified facility features a combination of a full-height channel glass curtain wall, Ipe wood, ceramic tile and stucco exterior finishes. With Monterey being in a region of high-seismic risk, Miyamoto designed the two wings to be seismically isolated from each other to ensure optimal performance during an earthquake. The lateral force-resisting system for both wings consisted of ductile steel moment-resisting frames.
