Los Angeles City College (LACC) partnered with Miyamoto’s design-build team to develop a new student union for this Los Angeles commuter school. Located in the heart of the campus, the building was designed to be a landmark facility celebrating diversity and providing a central home for the LACC community. Because this is a commuter campus, school officials wanted special features and amenities to entice students to be more active on campus. The student union also will provide a greater opportunity for LACC to connect with the surrounding community.
The 63,500-SF facility serving 20,500 students is designed to meet LEED Gold Certification. Toward this goal, we helped identify design solutions and building materials to achieve maximum energy efficiency for the building.
