To serve the growing needs of the Gonzales community, Miyamoto developed a design to expand the existing Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System medical office building by approximately 12,800-SF while maintaining the existing aesthetic. The project included exterior colonnades, an intricate mansard system and a decorative tower. We evaluated two expansion options: keep the expansion and existing building seismically separated or tie them together. We decided to hard-connect the new construction to the existing building; we developed strategic details to accommodate varying conditions along the existing building perimeter.
