Description

This renovation and expansion project includes improving the existing Public Safety Complex to house Police Services administration, operations, dispatch and other essential-service functions. Improvements include renovating 16,800-SF of the existing 31,000-SF Alameda County Fire Department building and the addition of a new seismically separated Police Services public entrance at the northwest corner of the building and a 7,495-SF addition to the east. Site improvements include the demolition of three existing, mostly vacant, industrial buildings. Since the footprint for the eastern addition is a near match with one of the existing buildings, the structural design took advantage of the existing deep foundations and grade beams by using them for support of the new one-story, wood-framed addition, resulting in saving both in demolition of the existing, and construction of the new foundations. Other safety improvements still under consideration: enhanced emergency power services, exterior louver screens and carports with secured parking.
