This monastery is home to one of the most sacred relics and Stupa of Buddhism in Nepal. The structure was badly damaged as a result of the April 25, 2015 earthquake, causing an unstable condition that threatened the Stupa, a sacred Buddhist shrine on which the relic is placed. In order to preserve the beautiful architectural space housing the Stupa, Miyamoto designed a creative and cost-effective solution that did not disturb the original interior space and exterior architecture. The repairs were also engineered in such a way that the Stupa and Buddhist artifacts will not need to be relocated during the repair and construction works. In the monastery’s tradition, touching these objects is prohibited.
