He highlighted Japan’s efficient warning systems, widespread individual preparedness with a two-week supply of essentials, and automatic gas shutoff—a critical feature absent in California. Miyamoto emphasized the need for the state to fortify its earthquake readiness, particularly in terms of warning systems, education, and measures to mitigate post-earthquake fires.
