The Ministry of Health has started a large-scale public hospital investment program funded by public-private partnerships. The Beyoğlu Education and Research Hospital campus is part of a 200-hospital program eliminating existing small-capacity healthcare facilities in downtown areas with inadequate road access.
The campus-style hospital has been adopted as the perfect model, consolidating these healthcare facilities into more efficient and accessible single locations.
Located in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, the 250-bed Beyoğlu Education and Research hospital is designed as a seismically-isolated, reinforced concrete structure. However, the base-isolated project could not be realized due to permitting issues. Therefore, the project was converted to a conventional (fixed-base) structure. The Beyoğlu Education and Research Hospital includes site-specific seismic hazard analysis, as well as design and cost analyses for 35m-deep excavation and a retaining wall.
